Today Unexamined Lives and Derby University launch a collaborative student project to use oral histories to explore the lives of ordinary people connected to the Derbyshire village of Borrowash, many of which have been featured in the Derby Telegraph.

The final total from the Help For Heroes fund-raising dinner at the Bay of Bengal restaurant on 16th September, 2014 has been announced:
£746 was raised for the charity.
After the event, attended by 41 people, delighted Project Director Helen Clark said ‘This is a wonderful testimony to the generosity of local people and to the fact that they honour all our heroes – of today and days gone by. We look forward to hosting another event next year.‘

Walter Sidney Day was born in the summer of 1887 in Grendon, Warwickshire
His parents were Thomas William & Lizzie Day. His father was a farm Labourer and Waggoner from Gloucestershire whilst his mother Lizzie was from Derby. They married in 1884, possibly in Derby.

Unexamined Lives is now an established part of Borrowash living history. We’ve been delighted at the enthusiasm from people who have lived here past and present and please keep the contacts coming!
We were delighted to be awarded funding from the Heritage Lottery of £36,400 in October 2012. The project is now fully underway and potential volunteers are crucial to its success!’ (click here for press release).
