Unexamined Lives

The story of the 20th century as lived by residents in the Derbyshire village of Borrowash

Welcome to Derby University Students!

Today Unexamined Lives and Derby University launch a collaborative student project to use oral histories to explore the lives of ordinary people connected to the Derbyshire village of Borrowash, many of which have been featured in the Derby Telegraph.

There are lots of opportunities for students to get involved including conducting interviews, writing blogs and articles, and collaborating with artists on exhibitions and community/school arts projects. They will receive training funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Unexamined Lives extends a warm welcome to our new student collaborators and we invite you to begin contributing to this website by leaving a comment on this Post telling us a little bit about yourself and what you would like to get out of the project.

Congratulations to Anthony, a crucial member of the ‘Number 17’ team. The set was superb, the props and costumes were amazing and your technical and stage management skills were put to the test with a complex production and a large cast of excited upper juniors! Your enthusiasm and commitment to the project was amazing. It’s been great working with you. Best wishes for your graduation and your future career in the creative industries.

Hope that the students will contact me once they have the transcripts for their interviews so we can discuss writing the Lives.
