Albert was born in Borrowash, near Derby, England, on the 24th December, 1893. He enlisted in Hamilton, Ontario, 23rd March, 1916, stating his address as 363, Catherine Street North, Hamilton, Ontario, and his occupation as a lathe hand. His next of kin was his brother, Joseph Wells, of 71, Marine Parade, Yarmouth, England.
He was six feet tall, had a medium complexion, hazel eyes and brown hair, and he was a Methodist. He had four large vaccination marks on his left arm, and a mole in the centre of his back between the shoulder blades.
